Defining the architecture and technical specs of complex IT/network systems.
Using the most state-of-the art technologies.
End-to-end supervision and analytics.
Offline or online reconfiguration of topology and parameters to maximise performance.
The research infrastructure of the laboratory comprises a number of hardware and software platforms used for developing and testing new technologies in the area of multimedia networking, featuring:
10GBps Ethernet backplane with VLAN support and high-speed (aggregate 1GBps) direct connection to the Internet. Custom firewalling and routing with dedicated equipment (Cisco 2921 Integrated Router, Cisco ASA 5510 Firewall and VPN Concentrator)
An end-to-end, multi-domain SDN/NFV network testbed on OpenStack, OpenDaylight and a variety of orchestrators (OSM, TeNOR etc.)
Private cloud computing infrastructure, fully reconfigurable to support a wide variety of services and experimental scenarios.
An end-to-end 4G testbed, featuring an EPC and a network of Small Cells at the access domain. Upgradeable to 5G.
Integrated SDR testbed with four nodes, feeding both small cells and macrocells, supporting 3G/4G radio protocols and upgradable to 5G NR (New Radio)
for precise network measurements
IP Traffic Generator and Measurement system for precise network measurements under various load scenarios (based on dedicated servers and GPS-based timing system for μsec accuracy)
Kubernetes is the open-source system we use for automating deployment, scaling, and management of our containerized applications.
analysis testbed
A laboratory-built Network- and Perceived-Quality of Service analysis testbed for measuring and correlating N- and P-QoS for IP-based video applications
A 70 m terrestrial mast for terrestrial broadcasting and wireless networking applications
