Research Director
Dr. Anastasios Kourtis received his BSc degree in Physics in 1978 and his Ph.D. degree in Telecommunications in 1984, from the University of Athens. Since 1986, he is a member of the research staff in the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (IIT) of the NCSRD, where he is currently the Research Director. His technical and research activities focus in the areas of wired and wireless broadband networks, multimedia applications, end to end Quality of Service (QoS) over heterogeneous networks and terminals, network management, network virtualization and 5G networks. Dr. Kourtis has been in charge of advanced research and collaborative projects inside different funding schemes. He has participated in more than 30 EU-funded research and development projects, and he is currently participating in six H2020/5G-PPP projects: 5G-ESSENCE, 5G-TANGO, MATILDA, IORL, 5G-MEDIA and 5GENESIS, investigating virtualisation technologies in the 5G landscape. Dr. Kourtis has been the Project Manager of ATHENA (IST/ FP6), IMOSAN (IST/ FP6), ADAMANTIUM (FP7-ICT) and T-NOVA (FP7-ICT) projects and also Technical Manager of REPOSIT (FP5/IST), VITAL (H2020), SESAME (H2020) and 5G-ESSENCE (H2020). Dr. Kourtis has also co-ordinated a number of National funded projects. He has more than 110 publications in Journals and International Conferences.

Research Assistant Professor
Dr. Harilaos Koumaras was born in Athens, Greece in 1980. He received his BSc degree in Physics in 2002 from the University of Athens, Physics Department, his MSc in Electronic Automation and Information Systems in 2004, being scholar of the non-profit organization Alexander S Onassis, from the University of Athens, Computer Science Department and his PhD in 2007 at Computer Science from the University of Athens, Computer Science Department, having granted the four-year scholarship of National Centre of Scientific Research “Demokritos”. He has received twice the Greek State Foundations (IKY) scholarship during the academic years 2000-01 and 2003-04. He has also granted with honors the classical piano and harmony degrees from the classical music department of Attiko Conservatory. Since 2004 he is a principal lecturer at the Business College of Athens (BCA) teaching modules related to Information Technology and Mathematics and Logic. From 2009, he has been elected as the Head of the Computer Science Department of BCA and Course leader of the respective franchised course of London Metropolitan University. He also joined as Associate Researcher the Digital Communications Lab at the National Centre of Scientific Research “Demokritos” in 2003 and since then he has participated in numerous EC-funded and national funded projects with presentations and publications at international conferences, scientific journals and book chapters. In 2018, he was elected Research Assistant Professor. His research interests include objective/subjective evaluation of the perceived quality of multimedia services, video quality and picture quality evaluation, video traffic modeling, digital terrestrial television and video compression techniques. Currently, he is the author or co-author of more than 100 scientific papers in international journals, technical books and book chapters, numbering 700 non-self citations. He is an editorial board member of the Telecommunications Systems Journal and a reviewer of the IEEE Network magazine, the EURASIP Journal of Applied Signal Processing, the IEEE Transactions on image processing and the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting. Dr. Koumaras is a member of IEEE, SPIE and National Geographic Society.

Research Fellow
George Xilouris was born in Athens, Greece in 1976. He received his BSc in Physics from University of Ioannina in 1999 and his MSc in Automation Control Systems from National Technical University of Athens in 2001. Since 2002 he is a PhD candidate with the University of Athens, department of Informatics and Telecom. He joined Digital Telecommunications Lab at the National Center of Scientific Research “Demokritos” in 1999. Currently he is working toward the PhD, having granted a scholarship from Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR “Demokritos” since 2001. He has actively participated in several EU funded projects (MAMBO, SOQUET, REPOSIT, ENTHRONE,ATHENA), with presentations and publications at various conferences, workshops, scientific journals. His current research activities include Interactive Digital Television (DVB), Next Generation Networks, Satellite Communications, Network Design and IT services.

Research Fellow
Ioannis received his Ph.D. from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece in the area of applied mathematics and networking. From then he has built a strong background while collaborating with operators, manufacturers and academics, leveraging his involvement in national and European research activities. Throughout his academic career, Ioannis has been intrigued by the challenge of applying his analytical background to financial modelling and investment decision-making. In recent years, Ioannis has created numerous successful advanced strategies and reliable support tools.
Ioannis has worked as an independent consultant in the scope of European research and business studies. He is author/co-author of books and scientific papers and reports in the international literature (book chapters, journals, and conferences proceedings), especially for technical, business and societal aspects of modern telecommunication systems. He has also performed an extended educational activity in Greece, in cooperation with universities and other high-level Institutes, covering a broad variety of issues in the scope of modern telecommunications.
He is serving as the Technical Coordinator of the European H2020 5G-PPP SESAME Project.

Research Fellow
Eleni Trouva received her diploma in Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece in 2006 and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Department of Informatics of Athens University of Economics and Business in 2009. In September 2009, she joined the i2CAT Foundation, where she initially contributed in the FP7 GEANT3 project and then in the FP7 IRATI project. In 2013, she joined the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos as a Research Fellow, contributing in T-NOVA FP7 and CHARISMA H2020 projects. Currently, she is working in MATILDA and SHIELD H2020 projects. Her research interests include future network architectures, NFV orchestration and management and SDN and NFV security challenges.

Charilaos C Zarakovitis received the BSc degree from the Technical University of Crete, Greece, in 2003, the M.Sc and G.C.Eng degrees from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland, in 2004 and 2005, and the M.Phil and Ph.D degrees from Brunel University, London, UK, in 2006 and 2012, respectively, all in electronic engineering. He is currently Researcher with the (i) School of Computing and Communications (Infolab21), Lancaster University, UK, (ii) Institute for Communication Systems (5GIC), University of Surrey, Guildford, UK, and (iii) Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (MNL), National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, Greece. His main research interests include green wireless networking, cognitive radios, AI/ML systems, network virtualisation, statistical signal processing, game-theoretical scheduling and convex optimisation analysis.
